DeckSpace Remote — Privacy Policy

DeckSpace Remote is a companion app for DeckSpace, which runs on your own Mac. The app has no account, no analytics, and no server of ours holding your data. This page says exactly what it does with information, including the one case where something other than your own two devices is involved.
What we collect
Nothing. We operate no service that receives information about you from this app. There is no sign-up, no profile, no advertising identifier, no crash reporting service and no analytics SDK. The app contains no third-party code at all.
What stays on your phone
- The access token your Mac issues when you pair, kept in the iOS Keychain and never written to a file, a log or a backup that could restore it onto another device.
- Your notification preferences and a short list of approval identifiers already shown, so the same one is not announced twice. Stored in the app's own preferences and nowhere else. These are the only entries in the app's privacy manifest.
- Whatever your Mac has recently sent it to display — a feed, a board, a list of running work — held in memory while the app is open and not written to disk.
Where the app sends things
To one destination: your Mac. On your own network — a private mesh, or Wi‑Fi you are both on — the phone reaches it directly and nothing else is in the path.
The one exception, stated plainly. DeckSpace can be configured, by the person sitting at the Mac, to accept connections through a relay we operate, so the phone can reach the Mac from anywhere. It is off unless someone turns it on at the Mac, and even then the app tries the direct path first every time and only falls back when the Mac is not directly reachable.
When the relay is used, the connection is encrypted between the phone and the relay and again between the relay and the Mac — but the relay decrypts in between, which means it is in a position to see what passes through it. It is not designed to look, it stores no request or response content, and it keeps no record of what your Mac said. We are telling you this because it is a weaker arrangement than the direct path, and you should be able to choose between them knowing that. The app says so on the screen where the relay appears.
The relay keeps only what it needs to route a connection: an opaque installation identifier for the Mac, a hash of that installation's connection secret, and counts of how many connections are open. No account, no email address, no history.
Camera
The app asks for camera access for one purpose: reading the pairing QR code shown on your Mac. Nothing is recorded, stored or transmitted — the frame is scanned for a code and discarded. You can decline and type the eight-digit code instead.
Microphone
If you use the talk feature, the app records while you hold the button and sends that audio to your own Mac, which transcribes it using whichever service you have configured there. The recording is not kept on the phone and never goes anywhere else. You can decline microphone access and use the app fully by typing.
Notifications
Notifications are produced on your phone from what your Mac has told it, either over the live connection while the app is open or during a background check iOS schedules. There is no push service involved and nothing about you is sent to Apple's notification servers by this app.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone.
Your data, and deleting it
There is nothing of yours for us to hold, so there is nothing to request or delete from us. Removing the app removes the token and preferences with it; you can also revoke the phone from the Mac's own settings, which stops it working immediately. If the relay was in use, deleting the pairing removes the phone's ability to reach the Mac through it.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. Material changes to what the app sends, or to what the relay can see, will be described here rather than quietly amended.
